Песня о Щорсе (The Song About Shchors, Shchors' Theme), also known as Шёл отряд по берегу (The Troops Walked Along the Shore), is a 1939 song commemorating the life and military adventures of the famous Ukrainian Soviet commander Mykola Oleksandrovich Shchors (Микола Олександрович Щорс in Ukrainian, Николай Александрович Щорс in Russian). Subscribe!:    / @spiritrev   Twitter:   / spiritrev_   The pioneering Ukrainian Soviet director & screenwriter Aleksandr Dovzhenko made a film called "Shchors", which was awarded the State Prize of the Soviet Union in 1941. Yevgeny Samoylov played Shchors in the movie. Песня о Щорсе was composed by Matvey Blanter, author of "Katyusha/Катюша", and the poet Mikhail Golodny, to accompany the film. Shchors served as Red Army commander, as a member of the Communist Party, and was renowned for his personal courage during the Russian Civil War, sometimes being called the Ukrainian Chapayev. In 1918–1919 he fought against the newly established Ukrainian government of the Ukrainian People's Republic. Later he commanded the Bohunsky regiment, brigade, 1st Soviet Ukrainian division and 44th rifle division against the head of the Ukrainian People's Republic Symon Petliura and his Polish allies. The plot of the film is as follows: Cheered up by the revolutionary zeal, the courage and the energy of their leader M. O. Shchors, in 1919 the peasants and workers groups gather in the devastated by the civil war in Ukraine, to defeat the foreign conquerors and enemies of the revolution. Shchors and his troops advance to Kiev, the seat of the bourgeois nationalists under their leader Symon Petliura, and take over the city. Other villages and towns fall. A bitter struggle with major losses blazes about Berdychiv. But Shchors' revolutionary forces remain victorious. However, it does not take long until a new danger threatens: this time the Polish Pans enter Ukraine, and General Dragomirov marches to Kiev. Shchors, however, gathers the revolutionary forces of the country and brings them to a victorious counter-attack.
