[Longplay, No Commentary] Heavy Gear II (PC, 1999) Campaign + Historical 1080p Full Play-through

Heavy Gear II is the sequel to Heavy Gear, released in 1999 for Windows. This time, Terra Nova is facing unprecedented threat from some invading Earthers. The Northern and Southern coalitions decide to set aside their differences and band together to counter this imminent threat. You are a commander of a team of Gear pilots dispatched to deal with the Earthers. Heavy Gear II is a huge step up from its predecessor. The game would start off by overloading you with tons of information, so you might be faced with a rather steep curve when first learning the Gear loadout and squad setup. The weapons felt much more balanced now, with more than a handful of them being actually viable for different situations. Though, there would still be a few overpowered weapons in your arsenal, if you so choose. Squad mates now come with different flavours, supposedly, thanks to their backstory and their Gear of choice, but mostly the latter. The pilots of heavier Gears could carry themselves most of the time. However, the AI performance in this game still left a lot to be desired. Pathfinding issues continued to plague friend and foe alike where they would get stuck on stuffs or make some dubious moves more often than not. They were just plain dumb at times. As Heavy Gear II was released around the same time as MechWarrior 3, I thought it was inevitable to compare between the two. It would be easy to guess which I would pick as the superior game, but to be fair, they were different games (duh) -- one being a fast-paced arcadey shooter, another being a slow-paced arcade-simulation shooter with more management aspect. Both were enjoyable in their own ways, so why not play both instead of actually picking sides. I took the liberty to upscale those FMV cutscenes by 6X from the original, using a handy free program named Video2X. It was hard to do any wonders considering the original footages were in really low resolution, but at least the upscaled videos are no longer pixelated mess. Music will play fine once you've done the necessary step stated in the corresponding readme, but the volume is very faint even at max volume, at least from my experience.)
