THE DAEDALUS ENCOUNTER (3DO) (1995) - Longplay (uncommented)

Complete longplay of Mechadeus' FMV adventure game THE DAEDALUS ENCOUNTER for 3DO. The game was released in 1995 and also came out on the PC and Mac. In THE DAEDALUS ENCOUTER, you are in control of Casey, a member of a three piece space crew. Once a human, your mind was transferred into a flying robot unit after a horrible accident in the last Interstellar War. Together with your team, you now scavenge shipwrecks for precious artifacts from the war to turn them into cash later. After your ship crashes into an alien spacecraft, you board the unknown vessel only to find out that it is also disabled and on a collision course with the sun. From now on, you only have limited time to explore the ship and to prevent your impending demise. Your character is mainly responsible for analysing the ship's various computer systems, getting access to them and using them to your advantage. The sporadic gameplay mainly consists of solving a number of logic puzzles or mini games. Normally, you can not move freely in the hostile world and have to rely on your two teammates to guide you the way. The game features only one true action sequence - unfortunately, it is of very poor design and hardly any fun thanks to the clunky gamepad controls. The plot is told in full motion video sequences; actors were filmed in front of a blue screen and inserted into rendered environments. For this longplay, I have picked the easy mode since I hate logic puzzles and I truly and honestly suck at them. In higher difficulties, puzzles are more complex or you have to solve the same puzzle multiple times with different variables. In all honesty, I'm neither a fan of THE DAEDALUS ENCOUNTER nor any other FMV title that relies on mini puzzle games as core gameplay elements (7TH GUEST and others come to mind). However, the title is a big step up compared to the company's first game called CRITICAL PATH - probably one of the worst pieces of crap I have ever played in my life. Let's be honest: I only checked this out because of Tia Carrere - and I know I'm not the only one.
