MiSTer FPGA - HAUNTED: Halloween '86 (The Curse Of Possum Hollow) / NES (Famicom)
Today's second Halloween pick is the recent homebrew game, Haunted Halloween '86. This was released as a cartridge for NES, and digital for Switch and Steam a couple years back, as well as the previous game in this series, Haunted: Halloween '85. This sequel has much more depth to the gameplay compared to the first, which is rather barebones. Overall these are decent side scrolling beat 'em ups, though the palette and art style leave a lot to be desired on most of the levels. Half of the challenge on some stages is knowing whether you are landing on solid ground or in a pit, as they often look exactly the same. This can be very frustrating in a game that only offers you limited lives/continues as it leads to some cheap feeling deaths. There are also some un-skippable dialog sequences that pop up during gameplay that seem to go on much longer than they should. Besides that, this is a pretty fun game. --- NES core 08-28-2020 build - HAUNTED: Halloween '86 (The Curse Of Possum Hollow) Filter: Gaussian Sharp NN 04 // Gamma: Off // Extra Sprites: On // Palette: Wavebeam Played using an OEM NES controller via SNAC Settings: Integer Scaled to 1080p // HDMI to Datapath e1s capture card --- |:=-Timestamps-=:| 00:00 - Settings 00:31 - Title/Intro 02:15 - Gameplay --- Twitch: / walrusfpga Twitter: / walrusfpga =---------------CONTRIBUTE---------------= None of this would be possible without the constant hard work of Sorgelig.
