Познакомьтесь с приемной мамой Джамилы Фредди #gorillas

Step into the world of gorillas with Larry’s Animal Safari as we launch our brand-new series introducing every member of the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo gorilla troop. In this first episode, Fredrika—lovingly called Freddy—shares her incredible story as the troop’s wise and nurturing matriarch. Born in 1974 at the Oklahoma City Zoo to two wild-born gorillas, Fredrika was the eldest of nine siblings. She spent 21 years in Oklahoma and then 22 years at Zoo Miami before arriving in Cleveland, where she’s lived peacefully for the past 7 years. As a dedicated mother, Fredrika gave birth to 7 gorilla babies—5 in Oklahoma, 2 in Miami—including Ben, Jonesie, Nia, Acacia, Moka, and Alice (one not named). Today, four of her children thrive in zoos across the U.S., continuing her legacy. Fredrika’s most heartwarming chapter began when she became the foster mom of baby Kayembe, the first gorilla ever born in Cleveland. Through a rare phenomenon called spontaneous lactation, she began producing milk to nourish him—despite not being the biological mother. Whether you’re a fan of baby gorilla videos, zoo stories, or just love powerful animal moms, this video will warm your heart. 💕 Fredrika's parents - Dad - Moemba, born in the wild (1960), died 5/5/97, cause of death not listed. Mom - Kathryn, born in the wild (1963), died 2/19/13 cause of death listed as old age? (age 50) 🦍 Subscribe for more gorilla stories, zoo animals, and baby wildlife adventures! _________________________________________________________ Meet N’neka    • Meet N’neka 🦍 A Mother’s Journey Through L...   Meet Tusa    • Meet Tusa 🦍 Resilient Gorilla with Wild Ro...   Meet Kebi    • Meet Kebi Moyo 🦍 Devoted Gorilla Mom of Ba...   Meet Mokolo    • Meet Mokolo 🦍 Cleveland Zoo’s Silverback &...   Fredrika's third baby passed away before being given a name, 4 are still alive today, pictures shown are from Alice and Acacia, Alice is at the Little Rock Zoo in Arkansas (born 6/22/2002) Acacia is at the Riverbanks Zoo & Gardens in South Carolina (born 1/14/95) Nia is at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium in Ohio, and (born 12/21/93) Moka is at the Pittsburgh Zoo in Pennsylvania (born 10/16/96) (siblings who have died...Jonesie 1/31/91-1/31/91, Ben 8/12/85,-11/7/06, Unnamed /2/23/92-9/19/92) --In general, gorillas live 35 years in the wild. In captivity they get better food, medical care and have no predators. Life expectancy can range from 50-60 years. GORILLA CONSERVATION - one of the easiest things you can do to help gorillas is to recycle your cell phone or other hand held electronic device. Recycling electronics helps support gorilla conservation programs. Cell phones and other electronics contain a mineral called coltan (it is short for columbite-tantalite). Coltan is mined in areas where gorillas live. Recycling cell phones reduces the demand for coltan, which helps protect these native habitats. Some estimates report gorilla populations have declined 25% in the past 20-25 years. _________________________________________________________ 🎉 Cleveland Zoo Gorilla Birthdays 🎂 Mokolo (silverback): July 10, 1987 🎉 Fredrika (Freddy): June 5, 1974 🎈 N'neka: Sept 23, 1998 🎁 Kebi: Jan 13, 1991 🎊 Tusa: Dec 2, 1989 🍼 Jameela: Jan 5, 2024 (foster mom is Fredrika) 🐣 Kunda: July 19, 2023 (mom is Kebi) 👶 Kayembe: Oct 26, 2021 (birth mom is N’neka, foster mom is Fredrika) The Conservation status of the Western Lowland gorilla is “Critically Endangered”. The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is one of over 230 zoos that is accredited by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums. To earn an AZA accreditation a zoo must keep their standards high to help ensure proper care and safety for people and animals. For more information, visit
