NES Longplay [743] Ike Ike! Nekketsu Hockey-bu: Subette Koronde Dairantou (a) (Fan Translation)

Played by: Reinc Kunio, while practicing a game of dodgeball, makes acquaintance with Greg, the captain of Nekketsu High's hockey club. Greg tells him that the hockey team is falling apart and needs to improve its morale and performance. After testing the hockey club's power with his dodgeball team, Kunio assumes leadership and proceeds to challenge other local clubs to a game of hockey before taking part in the Inter-High Tournament. Oh, and the school newspaper's photographer girl is secretly in love with Greg. Ike Ike! Nekketsu Hockey-Bu: Koronde Subette Dairantou ( "Go Go! Nekketsu Hockey Club: Multi-Sport Challenge", Nekketsu being high school's name and itself translating as "Hot-Blood" ) is a hockey-themed game by Technos starring Kunio-kun and related characters. A North American localisation named Crash 'n the Boys: Ice Challenge was in development, but was never released. As with other Nekketsu titles, this game features a wide variety of special moves, combat-like competition, hazardous arenas and a simple comical plot. Each character has four stats: life, attack, speed and defence/weight. The more defence a character has, the harder it is to knock them down and the faster they will recover after being hit. Each team also has its own costume which adds attack and defence to characters wearing it, as well as sometimes giving them an additional special move. There are four game modes: singleplayer story mode; 2-player story mode (2p controls a goalkeeper); 2-player versus mode; 4-player versus mode (1p vs 3p, with 2p and 4p as goalkeepers). Defending your goal in 2-player mode is much easier, as you don't need to pay attention to several characters, enemy players and the puck simultaneously. When controlling a character, the player also has control over one of his/her teammates, which is selected randomly and will act as if you are making input for them too. However, the passing system in this game seems to be poorly done as the puck often lands away from its intended destination and even the AI has problems doing combo shots. You can save your progress in story mode by using passwords. The password for each match is given in two situations: newspaper articles have issue number on top right corner of a page - these are actually passwords; you are also given a password at the game over screen. I try to use as many tactics as I can, while also letting enemy AI show what it can do (it can do a lot in this game), I manage to show all special moves. I don't show one music track, which plays when you are losing in the last period of a match. I show all costumes and try to show all of their advantages, as well as try to play off the special conditions that arena hazards give to some matches. I also show some of the more significant secret stuff (teddy bear intermission, which can only appear when having a flawless score against the American football team; scoreboard glitch, which happens when score goes into three-digit values). - Disclaimer: Most videos by World of Longplays use SaveStates!
