King's Quest Chapter 1: A Knight to Remember (PS4) Playthrough - NintendoComplete

A complete playthrough of Activision's 2015 PlayStation 4 graphic adventure King's Quest: A Knight to Remember. A Knight to Remember is first chapter of the new series being released under the newly christened Sierra Entertainment label. After how solid yet underwhelming I found the Gabriel Knight remake, I was apprehensive about this. Thank God, I had absolutely nothing to worry about this time around. It pulls exactly the right nostalgic strings, spit-shining the old KQ game's best qualities (the sappy charm, the crazy characterizations, the fairy tale stories) while quietly dispensing with the hideous frustration that time has nicely clouded the memories of. This really does play like your best memories of the series. It's certainly modern, but the changes are so unobtrusive that you don't even notice how different it truly is. That, and I swear I smiled just about everytime Graham moved. He's so goofy but good-hearted, and it's incredible how much of his personality is conveyed in his animation. Everything else looks just as awesome, like hand painted 3D. If you recall what Valkyria Chronicles, Dragon Quest VIII, or Ni no Kuni looked like, imagine them super upgraded for the current consoles and PCs and you've got the general idea. The puzzles aren't terribly difficult, but don't think it's overly short just based on this video's length - anyone that ever played the old KQ games knows that they are usually quite short once you know the solution to all of the puzzles. My first playthrough of this probably took me about 6 hours, and that's being extremely well versed in the older games and the logic behind them. If you're a noob, it'll probably take you longer. This, however, is the first of a total six part series, so if all of the parts are of this length, this will be a massive game, blowing past even the heavies of the series, numbers six and seven. If you have ever felt any fondness for the genre or the series, don't question it. Just give in and play it. You'll love it.
