The Magical Drop series is a puzzle game from Data East whom went bankrupt in 2003 and later on a company known for mobile games called G-Mode acquired most of Data East's IPs. The game Magical Drop V was developed by Golgoth Studio whom are an indie studio not related to the original developers. The game unfortunately does not compare well to other entries in the series, especially due to a lack of characters, puzzle mode and criticism that the visuals look cheap. The game can be found at where you have the option of downloading a demo if you don't want to pay US$0.99 initially. My recommendation if possible for you is to play Magical Drop III (specifically the Japanese version) which was developed by Data East, it is listed as being released on the arcade, Neo Geo, Neo Geo CD, Sega Saturn, PlayStation, Zeebo, Game Boy Colour and Nintendo Wii Virtual Console. If you buy it on the Wii Virtual Console on your Wii or Wii U which is from outside Japan you will not get the Japanese version, you will end up with the English version that lacks the Japanese voice acting which is replaced by a generic dub of a couple of lines for all characters, a lack of a difficulty mode in the story mode, and the dialogue for the story mode is replaced by generic one liners. Hence the story mode is pretty much no story and is called Challenge mode. You will still have a puzzle mode and the ability to vs the hidden characters in Challenge mode such as the Black Pierrot which I was only able to do once. Here is a good reference guide from Richard Rouse for Magical Drop III for the changes I mentioned and others found at It'd be great if G-Mode could port the rest of the Magical Drop series to Steam since most other Japanese publishers are noticing that they shouldn't ignore the PC market now. However, I wouldn't hold my breath and just use the other methods mentioned to play the other games from the series.
