Game Boy Longplay [078] The Final Fantasy Legend (Part 1 of 2)

Played by: Ironsharp Originally released in Japan as the first installment in the now long-running SaGa series, this game was released in the west as the Final Fantasy Legend trilogy in order to boost sales. In honor of this, I've named the protagonists (who have no canon names) after various Final Fantasy characters in order to, um...boost the popularity of this longplay. Boasting innovative mechanics for its time (from the mind behind Final Fantasy II), Legend allows you to choose four characters from 3 different races: equipment-reliant humans, magic-using mutants, and evolving monsters. No races "level up" in the traditional sense; mutants gain random abilities & stats after battles, humans use consumable items to increase stats, and monsters gain abilities & stats by consuming the meat of slain monsters. If you're wondering why I kept using stat-increasing items on my human past 99 points: the stat actually caps at 255, but only displays up to 99, which is why he ends up dealing insane damage after the stat increases. - Disclaimer: Most videos by World of Longplays use SaveStates!
