Ultimate Board Game Collection Wii Review

Ultimate Board Game Collection is exactly how you would expect the game to be. Kinda soulless. You have the games, you can play them, that’s it. The games are split into three categories – Classic, Family and Strategy. Classic has chess, checkers, Reversi and backgammon. Family offers jigsaw puzzles, Chinese Checkers, Wordcubes (you know it as Boggle) and Naval Battle (a.k.a. Battleship). Strategy rounds things out with Mahjong, a generic version of Connect Four, Sudoku puzzles and Gomoku, which is a game also sometimes called Pente. Also some games were made worse. Naval Battle, for example, isn’t a turn-based game– instead, it's a race against the computer (or a friend) to see who can bomb the most grid squares the fastest, which takes out all strategy out of it. Sudoku is also ruined. The game buzzes at you if you place a number incorrectly. The whole point of Sudoku is to figure out where the numbers go by yourself – if you're alerted every time you make a mistake, it defeats the whole charisma of sudoku being a brain game. And the sound the game has is horrible. Not only that the buzzing sounds are irritating, but the whole game seems to have only three songs. So if you ever stumble upon these games, you have two options: if you really, but really love playing the before mentioned board games on a TV with the wiimote, then get it, but if you’re not eager to play board games on a TV, then avoid the game, it’s poorly made and soulless.
