This is a, no commentary, Longplay of Hyper Lode Runner for Game Boy. No wonder why there are no complete walkthroughs on YouTube, this game is brutally hard. Even though it is a puzzle game, it requires, not only good memory, but great reflexes to avoid enemies, perfect timings for some puzzles, and also luck since enemies can respawn next to you or even in the same block where the lode runner is. Furthermore, due to the small game boy screen, the view distance is limited making it even harder. The 'hyper' in the title probably stems from its difficulty. Story is quite interesting; You are the last lode runner and your mission is to acquire the stolen gold to launch a counter attack against General Zod who has captured millions of civilians. The gold is secured in a maze beneath the surface of the planet guarded by cyborg zombies. To complete a level you have to get all gold piles, a ladder will then appear to ascend to next stage. There are 50 levels in total so the road to surface is quite long. At the end of each stage you get a live (max 8), they do not stack up though. The first 16 stages are unlocked to play in any order and the rest require a password to resume. I noticed that if you press select you can restart a level without loosing a live, I assume in the case where you stuck with no chance to escape. Some gold piles, especially in later stages, are very hard to get and require perfect timings. There is also the VS mode to play with a friend and the Edit mode where you can create your own levels. The later however is pointless since there is no save functionality. The graphics are very basic but it is acceptable for a puzzle game. Music on the other hand is very boring since there are only 2 soundtracks playing through all levels. They could have added a few more tracks at least. In summary, it's a decent game with great puzzles. If you are looking for a real challenge that combines memory, timings and reflexes, I highly recommend it. Of course a no death run seems impossible to me but I'm glad that I beat it in a single run (I had 26 deaths in this video). Below are the video times of each level. Level 1: 0:12 Level 2: 1:40 Level 3: 3:38 Level 4: 5:12 Level 5: 6:48 Level 6: 8:56 Level 7: 10:50 Level 8: 12:09 Level 9: 16:15 Level 10: 18:18 Level 11: 19:44 Level 12: 22:22 Level 13: 24:05 Level 14: 24:50 Level 15: 27:33 Level 16: 29:01 Level 17: 34:02 Level 18: 36:46 Level 19: 39:10 Level 20: 43:46 Level 21: 45:36 Level 22: 53:31 Level 23: 56:09 Level 24: 1:01:02 Level 25: 1:02:35 Level 26: 1:04:58 Level 27: 1:06:20 Level 28: 1:10:47 Level 29: 1:16:05 Level 30: 1:17:54 Level 31: 1:29:09 Level 32: 1:32:05 Level 33: 1:35:23 Level 34: 1:37:49 Level 35: 1:41:06 Level 36: 1:43:23 Level 37: 1:49:47 Level 38: 1:53:53 Level 39: 1:55:46 Level 40: 1:57:52 Level 41: 2:00:47 Level 42: 2:02:42 Level 43: 2:08:05 Level 44: 2:22:40 Level 45: 2:26:54 Level 46: 2:30:09 Level 47: 2:41:08 Level 48: 2:44:03 Level 49: 2:55:07 Level 50: 2:58:27 --------------------------------------------------------------------- Game is played by me in one go.
