Johnny Herbert's Grand Prix Championship 1998 (1998) - Every PC F1 Game

Johnny Herbert's Grand Prix Championship 1998, aka Johnny Herbert's Grand Prix World Champions by Midas Interactive, 1998. There were various cut back budget versions of this game, with titles such as Grand Prix Racing 98, Grand Prix Challenge and GP Challenge. Apologies for the poor frame rate, but the game won't run on anything greater than Windows 98, so I used the PCem emulator, which struggles with this game. It is possible to replace the core files with those of the later game GP Championship 2, but you lose the car chrome effect and the cockpit view is in a different position. So this is the best compromise I could come up with! This was captured at 1024x768, but the game can run at 1280x1024 too (but not in PCem). The 3D engine behind this game looks very similar to the software DOS-based engine that powered Power F1 (see previous videos to compare). Watch out for the sequel, GP Championship 2 (from 2007) later on in this playlist! 1. Race Start (Monza): 0:00 This game is a light-weight simulator of sorts, it's not quite up there with the Grand Prix games, but it's not a complete arcade racer like Psygnosis' Formula 1 games. 2. Spray Effects (Silverstone): 0:34 As this game only has a fog effect, there's no spray effects from the cars. 3. Tunnel & View (Monaco): 0:55 The tunnel here is quite bright, but there's no hills behind the buildings when you exit the tunnel, as there is in real life. 4. Wet Track (Spa-Francorchamps): 1:12 There's no wet weather as such in this game, just a fog effect. 5. Pitstop (Interlagos): 1:32 I wasn't able to get the game to perform a pitstop. There is a key which allows a choice of tyre when pitting, but stopping in the pits doesn't seem to do much, unless I'm missing something, so I leave still damaged! 6. Huge Crash (Montreal): 1:47 There is a semi-decent damage model, where damaged wheels REALLY affect handling, and you can lose wheels/wings, but it mainly happens if you hit a wall, rather than other cars. It's also interesting to note here that PCem is using a Voodoo2 emulator, which gives thick black skid marks on the grass. With Voodoo1 emulation, the skid marks are transparent (as they were on my original Voodoo3/Voodoo5 years ago).
