Otomedius Excellent - Xbox 360

Otomedius Excellent (オトメディウスエクセレント) A horizontal SHMUP by Konami, which was definitely created from their own Gradius mold. If you've played and enjoyed the Gradius series, and the wacky descendant of that series; the Parodius series, then you'll most likely enjoy this high resolution younger sibling of those two; the Otomedius series. Otomedius was originally an arcade game on Konami's PC based hardware, released in 2008, which was shortly after ported to the Xbox 360 and renamed Otomedius Gorgeous, featuring a few console exclusive modes. In 2011 the game's sequel, Otomedius Excellent was exclusively released on the Xbox 360. The game play while a bit derivative, is still really fun, and although I tend to prefer the low res, 2D sprite based art of Gradius and Parodius, Otomedius still shines with its graphical presentation, as it has some very vividly colored visuals and the presentation of the detailed stage backgrounds are impressive and make traversing throughout each stage enjoyable. I've had this game since back in 2011 when it was released, just never got around to doing a vid on it, so figured what better time than now. In summary, It's definitely a fantastic addition to anyone's 360 shmup library, as it's great fun with the tried and true Konami hori shmup weapon system and features some very nice high res, 3d visuals, not to mention, I just did a quick price check and it would seem that you can pick it up used these days for a fraction of what it cost me to buy brand new back in 2011. I have the limited special edition, which had a nice holographic, larger box and a few extras, but I think even the special edition is not too expensive on the second-hand market yet, so yeah, a great bargain. Here's a look at the intro and game play of a couple stages. Thanks for checking it out. (Quick Note: My Hauppauge HD PVR Rocket struggled a bit with recording this game for some annoying reason, so there are a few little places in the vid where the recording has a very brief glitch, so hopefully it won't distract you from the viewing of the video at all, but as many of you who have one know, the PVR Rocket is a cumbersome device, which can work great, and at other times be mysteriously very hit or miss, so just thought I'd point that out)
