Spirit of Speed 1937 (Dreamcast)

Ah yes. A Dreamcast game from LJN. All who are familiar with Angry Video Game Nerd should also be familiar with LJN and this racer is from the rainbow colored game publisher. The game was however developed by the Wales based Broadsword Interactive Limited that continued to make games like the Dance: UK series and PopStar Guitar. They were scheduled to make a couple of racing games in the late 00s, but was shut down. Also note that this was LJN's very last game that they published. But there is more to this story. In fact, LJN hadn't published a game since late 1995 (Spider-Man and Venom: Separation Anxiety), just before they were folded into Acclaim Entertainment who had bought LJN back in 1990. Spirit of Speed 1937 was supposed to be published by Acclaim Entertainment but they must have seen the issues with SoS1937 and revived LJN for one last game so not to spoil Acclaims good name. For more information about LJN and their history we can recommend you to take a look at The Gaming Historian's short documentary:    • History of LJN - Gaming Historian   The game itself is supposed to be a racing simulator and is set in the late 30s, when the F1 circuit was in its infancy. Spirit of Speed 1937 features nine historic race tracks and some of history's most famous early race cars. It also features a pretty nifty Art Deco interface that draws Bioshock to mind. But there is where the fun ends. The cars are really hard to control and the slightest movement of the analogue control stick makes the car fly off the track. The game has support for the Race Controller steering wheel and maybe it's easier to control with that. The sound is terrible. Just listen for yourself to the sweet, sweet sound of the races. Disclamer: This is not a complete run or a long play. We never claim to be pro gamers. We are just showing what the game looks like and how it plays, for your viewing pleasure.
