A playthrough of Nintendo's 1998 golf game for the Nintendo 64, Waialae Country Club: True Golf Classics. In this video, I play through the Waialae Open tournament mode. Days 1 and 4 were played with the normal shot meter. I used the easy shot mode on Days 2 and 3. Day 1 3:00 Day 2 43:23 Day 3 1:15:29 Day 4 1:38:00 Ending 2:07:14 Waialae Country Club: True Golf Classics is part of a long-running series of golf games from T&E Soft that got its start with the release of True Golf Classics: Waialae Country Club ( for the Super Nintendo shortly after the console's North American launch in the Fall of 1991. From the beginning, the series was known primarily its distinctive use of digitized character sprites laid over top of courses that were rendered in real-time 3D, and the games appeared on several consoles throughout the 90s, including the SNES, Sega Genesis, 3DO, Sega Saturn, Virtual Boy, and the Nintendo 64. This game was one of the three games in the series made for the N64, though it was the only one to be published outside of Japan, and it's the second "remake" of the Waialae course following the 1994 3DO version. The N64 game looks and plays a lot like Pebble Beach Golf Links for the Sega Saturn ( , though it lacks that game's celebrity endorsement and its fancy FMV cutscenes. You won't find any clips of Craig Stadler here. Disappointing, I know. But for anyone looking for a serious, non-Mario golf sim on the N64, Waialae is a great choice. There are several ways to customize your golfer's abilities, the controls are easy to come to grips with, and the flashy TV-style presentation keep things feeling energetic. The golfers and caddies animate well, the framerate stays pretty smooth as the camera sweeps across the course, and the landscapes paint a nice picture despite the constant flicker of the shadows. The sound is good too, especially for a cartridge-based game. The upbeat music is classic T&E midi-based fare, and the commentary has a good bit of variety to it and doesn't sound overly compressed. Did anyone else notice how the caddies were lifted from Valora Valley Golf on the Saturn ( Just thought that I'd point that out.
