🔥Дамасская Сталь. Нож Из Лифтового Троса. Кованый В Огне.

In today’s video, I forged a Damascus steel knife from an old elevator cable — a true test of patience, fire, and skill. Forging knives from elevator cable is a challenging yet rewarding process because the cable is made of many twisted steel wires. When forged and folded properly, these wires create an incredible and unique Damascus pattern that makes each blade truly one of a kind. The project began by heating the old elevator cable in the forge until it was glowing bright orange. Once hot, I hammered and pressed the steel to fuse the strands together, eliminating gaps and impurities. This step requires precision and careful control of the fire to ensure that the steel bonds properly without burning. After repeated heating and hammering, the cable started to form into a solid billet, which I later shaped into the body of the knife. One of the most exciting parts of working with elevator cable Damascus is watching the pattern emerge. Because the steel is twisted and layered during forging, it develops beautiful wave-like textures that only appear after the final etching process. Every knife carries its own unique design, meaning no two blades are ever the same. In this video, you’ll see how I brought out these mesmerizing patterns by carefully etching the finished blade in acid. After forging the shape, I refined the knife by grinding the bevels, sharpening the edge, and polishing the surface. The handle was carefully fitted to balance the blade, making it not only sharp and durable but also comfortable to use. The end result is a strong, razor-sharp Damascus knife with an elegant and striking appearance — forged entirely from recycled steel. This video is perfect for anyone who loves knife making, Damascus steel forging, blacksmithing techniques, and handmade blades. Whether you are a beginner curious about how knives are forged, or an experienced blacksmith looking for inspiration, you’ll find something valuable in this process. Knife making is more than just a craft — it’s an art form that connects tradition with innovation. By taking a piece of old elevator cable, a material that once carried heavy loads, and transforming it into a functional knife, I wanted to show how blacksmiths give new life to forgotten steel. This transformation represents both creativity and sustainability, as recycled materials can become works of art in the forge. Throughout the video, you’ll hear the rhythm of hammer strikes, see the sparks flying, and feel the raw energy of the blacksmithing process. Every detail, from the glowing steel in the fire to the final polished blade, reflects the dedication and craftsmanship required in this ancient trade.
