Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation [DS] (Commentary) #001

Like this game's predecessor, Dragon Quest V, Enix did not originally release it in the West, which is a shame. The Super Famicom version originally released in 1995. It was not until 2011 that we got it in the West on the Nintendo DS. It was also released for Android and iOS in 2015. The DS and Android/iOS versions are very similar, though not quite identical. Sadly, I feel that DQ6 pales in comparison storywise compared to DQ4 and DQ5. It starts out good, but after a certain major plot event fairly early in the game, it tapers off until the very last section of the game. Even by DQ standards, it is a bit hard to determine where the game wants you to go next. That is not to say that I think it is a bad game; I just don't think it is as good as others in the series. However, one big point in the game's favor is that it introduces a vocation system very similar to the system in Dragon Warrior VII. And it has excellent music by Koichi Sugiyama, as always.
