Super R-Type (SNES) Playthrough - NintendoComplete

A playthrough of Irem's 1991 Super Nintendo shoot-em-'up, Super R-Type. Played through two loops - once on hard (to unlock the pro difficulty level), and once on Pro. Jesus, this is one of the most difficult SNES games I've ever played. I loved it and played it endlessly - more because of my love affair with excessive orchestra hit use than because of the game play - but I still learned the game pretty well just out of sheer will to listen to the music over and over again. Don't get me wrong, I really love this game, and I really love difficult shooters, but still - this is difficult for the wrong reasons half the time. The game's framerate can be really unpredictable, and if the screen suddenly isn't filled with projectiles, the whole thing speeds back up. Suffice it to say, this is hardly optimal in a twitch-style shooter. The number of deaths I've suffered at the hands of this game's technical hiccups is more than I care to recount. It can be compensated for, but it really takes an intimate understanding of how the game is going to react under what load on-screen - if the bullets are quickly travelling toward the edges, you'd better start with baby taps on the d-pad or else you're likely to sail straight into a wall (and wholly because the speed of the game, obviously, impacts the sensitivity of the controls). While not a total killer, it does make what would be an already difficult game insanely frustrating. If you wear a toupee, take it off for this ride. Don't want the sweat loosening the glue and dropping it in front of your eyes! (psst... Donald Trump, I know you play Super R-Type, right?) ______ No cheats were used during the recording of this video. NintendoComplete (
