Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 [PS2] @ PCSX2 0.9.9 SVN r5113
Showing some PS2 emulation of this outstanding game :) release: SLES-54913 (PAL/NTSC selection) languages: EN/ES performace: Running at 50 fps at 2X Native resolution (1024x1024). Sadly, there is some microstuttering - watch out for the audio slowdowns in the vid. Enabling VSync seems to remove them. Also, the game slows down at some points like kickoffs, fouls, offsides etc. Latest SVN available from: Now thoughts about the game. Thought this is simply a PES 6 with new squads? Wrong. It looks like they've been implementing that hyped Teamvision system on the PS2 game firstly... This game is serious, hard and pushes PS2 hardware to the limits. Takes more simulation approach with less agility and acceleration of the players. On the other side, shooting is more accurate and consistent. The automatic sidestep move is back. And what the AI is! You won't see that in this vid, because I've played good defense. They will pass to the space and make the use of it. Combining it with weakened X-button pressing defending, this may lead to a PES 2012-style wonder-dribble sometimes. On 1-on-1, they humiliate your goalie with lobs. Leave them some space just before the box and you'll see AI shooting from distance. Leave them alone in the box and you'll see the ball in the net. Everything mentioned above is on the Regular! In the defense AI actually tries to predict your moves. It's all about YOUR timing. R2 trap is your best friend. The defender won't let you get past him easily. If done wrong, you've got him running at your back at full speed, like Giggs vs Essien @ 1:54 . Do it right, like @ 9:23 , and you'll get shitloads of space. Why? Because in PES 2008 there's little speed difference between runner with and without the ball. They are catching you up after 25m... and vice versa. Learn how to 1-2 for wrecking the opposition lines. AI dispossess you off the ball by very aggresive pressing, sliding tackles and often double- and triple-teaming ball carrier. Goalies are slightly better than in PES 6. At free kicks, role of the curve is massive. Cons? Referee is very forgiving, player ratings after match are usually understated - this might lead to unsatisfying player growth in ML. Concluding / tl;dr - if THIS game would have been ported to PC back in 2007... simply rolls over that "NG" PES 2008 blasphemy. In terms of AI, this is beaten only by NG PES 2012. PC specification: Athlon II x4 620@3.16Ghz Radeon HD5770 1GB @930/1250Mhz 4GB RAM Controller - Keyboard Configuration: GSdx D3D11 Hardware mode, 2x Native (1024x1024); EE 0, VU 0, INTC, Wait loop, Flag hack, MTVU EDIT: New configuration, very stable gameplay achieved GSdx D3D9 Hardware mode, VSync, EE 0, VU 0, INTC, Wait loop, Flag hack, MTVU - i can run it in 1400x1050 with little "event" stutters And one question: how the AI of the game with limited hardware capabilities, with CPU running @ 299 MHz is better than the AI of the games having loads more CPU cycles available...
