As you may know by now, Kayembe is the first baby gorilla born at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. His mother was Nneka, age 23, and father was Mokolo, age 34. Unfortunately, Nneka did not show proper maternal care after birth. The good news is, the oldest female in the troop stepped in. Fredrika, a 47-year-old female, who raised four infants herself, has been taking care of Kayembe. Kayembe is fed formula and Orangutan milk by zoo staff.
