STARO ERKEČKO HORO - СТАРО ЕРКЕЧКО ХОРО - East Trakia

This dance comes from the Erkeč people who live in the area where the Stara Planina ends towards the Black Sea, near Burgas. “Staro” means old which could indicate the antiquity of the dance. The dance is called after the old name of the village Kozičino, Erkeč. Another name for it is “Erkečkata”. The dance was originally accompanied by singing the song “Rada v gradina sedeše” (Rada set in the garden) and is lead by groups of women, while the men also join as a group in the middle or at the end of the line. Interesting is that the group who sings, dances quietly the first part, while the other group (who doen’t sing), dances the second part, moving impetous and giving the suggestion of the low and high tide of the seawaves.
