PC - Thrust, Twist + Turn - Arcade Race 1/6 - City

After having shared my childhood memories of playing the demo in the video I made about it, I have decided to play the full version and go through Arcade Mode, showing all of the game's 8 tracks before showcasing the unlockable Shadow tracks after completing Arcade Mode, starting off in the very track showcased in the demo. Now, about the game: Thrust, Twist + Turn is a racing game that was published in June 1999 by, yep, you see the intro screens of it, Take 2. The very Take 2 we know so well for GTA, Rockstar Games, 2K Games, 2K Sports, Mafia and whatever big name Take 2 is so heavily and synonymously associated with. As for who developed the game, because it was running on the engine that powered Hot Wired whose review I saw of by Vectrex4Life ultimately triggered severe flashbacks that I had of this game, I was thinking that it was also developed by IncaGold, but actually no. It wasn't. It turns out it was developed a Finnish developer called Carts Entertainment, whose portfolio only consisted of this one and only game they made before they disbanded only two years after the game's release, with some of the team members joining other Finnish developers incl. Remedy Entertainment which Take 2 under the helm of Rockstar Games eventually teamed up with to deliver us their smash hit Max Payne, whilst Janne Alanenpää who worked on the intro to this game, eventually went on to found Bugbear Entertainment which would be known for making hits like Rally Trophy, FlatOut and their most recent work Wreckfest. The game engine was called 3DGE and it was developed by another Finnish company which believe it or not, still actually exists, including their official website, called Twilight 3D. With 16 tracks, 8 regular and 8 Shadow, unlocked by winning all 8 races in Arcade Mode, only four cars to choose from and up to three opponents to race against even though the intro shows 6 cars on screen not 4 like here, and the fact that unlike most of Take 2's other games, especially those of European origin such as this, before and after it, it only got a European release, the game was obviously met with mixed to negative reviews which also further contributed to Carts Entertainment's very early demise. And as such, the game was not particularly successful and a North American release of the game was never even planned as it is also evident that it was never submitted to the ESRB for rating. If it were given a rating though, it would have obviously been given E. The game did have a Track Editor though which came with an official patch for it, whose creations made with the Editor would at least extend the game's longevity. In some ways, this game seems to be a precursor to the later racing smash-hit known as Trackmania. I have a made a video which shows the Track Editor in some detail, and soon I'll be making a video showcasing a track that I made with the editor. Also worthy of note: According to Miha Rinne, one of the artists who worked on this game via his ArtStation profile, the game originally began development as a WipEout clone, hence the fact that it has the word "Thrust" in the title obviously referring to spaceship-like crafts like those seen in WipEout, before it was then changed to a car-based racer upon request by Take 2 when they pitched it to them while looking for a publisher to help release it.
