[X360] Dodonpachi Saidaioujou - Expert Mode - ALL Clear 15.3 Billion (HD)

Turn on captions for some extra comments. Re-uploaded this old run with the new capture card because the old one had very poor video quality. What better time than when after Kayar just got the game and the mode into next SGDQ! Dodonpachi Saidaioujou came out in arcades in 2012 and was the last arcade game Cave ever developed, it was basically their swansong. An Xbox360 port came out later in 2013 but unfortunately it suffered from a lot of input lag and a lot of other issues, making it a less than ideal port. The PCB of the arcade game still regularity goes for like 7000 bucks. Saidaioujou went back to the hyper system of Daioujou, but instead of hypers having a max of level 5, they now have a max of 10. Hypers do a ton of damage and you get a screen cancel every time you activate one. You build them up through normal play, but the fastest ways to build them up is by pointblanking, getting bees and collecting star items. Small stars give a tiny amount but big stars give a ton. This ties into the most important mechanic of the game; the hyper recharging. Bullet cancels normally give small stars, but in hyper they give big stars. So if you time these bullet cancels right before your hyper runs out, you can get a ton of big stars at once and recharge your hypers almost immediately. As usual you can select between three different ships but you can also select if you want autobombs or not. With autobomb on you get less bombs and every autobomb takes up your entire bomb stock, but despite all that it's still more of an asset to have autobombs on. The autobomb lasts very short and does basically no damage compared to a normal bomb. Game still has the traditional DDP chaining system, but it is far more lenient than ever before. The scoring of this game has a lot more focus on bullet cancelling than chaining. Expert mode is the hardest mode in the game, comparable to the Ultra modes of the Mushihimesama games. All the patterns got buffed immensely and you can only ever carry one bomb at a time, it's very crazy. Though you also get some unique advantages. You get both the strong shot and laser and your hitbox is reduced significantly. The game has two secret TLB's, one for 1-miss or less and one for no-miss, no-bomb. The bosses are the same as in the normal mode, but they are obviously a lot harder to trigger in Expert mode. The TLB for NMNB is still undefeated to this day in either mode. The strats used in this are probably a bit outdated by now but here's a rundown: -------------------------------------- The first two stages are all about keeping the rank at a minimum, this is important for both survival and scoring. That is why I never want to have more than two hypers at a time until after the stage 2 midboss. Bombing on that midboss also reduces the rank. If I hadn't died I would normally have taken a hit after the stage 3 midboss to reset the rank back to zero. Stage 3 is all about timing the cancels and destroying the boats before they can enter the screen. The death was pretty unfortunate. Ideally you want to have a level 10 hyper for the boss because you can skip both the second and last phase of the fight if you pointblank it after the first phase. The stage 4 boss is extremely difficult, however there is a way to make it a lot easier, this involves bringing a level 6 hyper into the fight. However in order to do this you have to beat the stage without dying, autobombing or losing the chain, which is not the easiest thing to do. The hyper allows you to skip the hardest patterns. I milk the last phase afterwards for additional hypers that I need in stage 5. You want a level 8 hyper for the first midboss. It's possible to do it with a level 7 but you'll have to pointblank the boss a bit more. The cancel from the second stage 5 midboss was quite bad, ideally you want to get a level 7 hyper from it so that you have a level 8 at the fourth midboss. That way you don't have to dodge quite so much of the scary pattern. It's also quite possible to get a level 10 hyper from the second midboss. I messed up at the part where I autobombed because I went to the left too early and didn't destroy the last medium ship. No-miss stage 5 boss was completely silly, that thing is completely ridiculous. Most Expert players die on it at least once. -------------------------------------------------------- Btw I guested an STGweekly episode of this run a long time ago if anyone's interested:    • STG Weekly #43: Dodonpachi Saidaioujou   00:00 - Intro 02:31 - Stage 1 05:08 - Stage 2 08:23 - Stage 3 13:48 - Stage 4 19:55 - Stage 5 32:11 - Ending ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Twitter:   / jaimersstg   Twitch:   / jaimersstg
