Sanity: Aiken's Artifact is a sci-fi action RPG video game developed by Monolith Productions and published by Fox Interactive exclusively for Windows, originally released in September 2000. The game is set in a futuristic version of the 21st century, when a revolutionary discovery of a psionic serum that greatly enhances the power of the human brain is made by Dr. Joan Aiken. However, the serum eventually begins to be used maliciously by renegade criminals, and the government is forced to create a regulatory department to oversee the serum's production and use, called the Department of National Psionic Control (DNPC). Players take on the role of DNPC special agent Nathaniel Cain, a genetically engineered human who possesses enhanced psychic abilities, called Talents, to fight rogue psionics and unravel the mysteries behind his own origins and the world around him. The game features a bird's eye view perspective, a card collection system largely inspired by Magic: The Gathering and Pokemon, which features a total of 100 talent cards divided into 8 classes called totems: Fire, Sun, Illusion, Science, Demonology, Death, Storm and Truth.
