Close Combat 4: The Battle of the Bulge - Grand Campaign
Grand Campaign - Allies (Americans) side. Hero difficulty. The Battle of the Bulge, also known as the Ardennes Counteroffensive, was a major German offensive campaign on the Western Front during World War II which took place from 16 December 1944 to 25 January 1945. It was launched through the forested Ardennes region between Belgium and Luxembourg towards the end of the war in Europe. The offensive was intended to split the Allied lines, allowing the Germans to encircle the four Allied forces and cause the Allies to negotiate a peace treaty in the Axis powers' favor. The Battle of the Bulge, so-called because the Germans created a "bulge" around the area of the Ardennes forest in pushing through the American defensive line, was the largest fought on the Western front. At Bastogne, American troops were besieged by a far larger force of Germans. The day after Christmas, units of Patton's rapidly approaching Third Army finally arrived, broke through the German lines, and rescued the troops. Claiming victory of the battle on January 25, 1945. The war ended less than five months later with Germany's May 7 surrender. The game details the battles fought by these two forces and it's considered as one of the best in Close Combat series.
