In this game, you can play the Soviets, Americans, British, and the Germans. There are a lot of tanks you can play from the Allies or the Axis. This game used 3d acceleration which was a new thing back then, and I ran it on a Pentium 166 MMX with a Voodoo 3dfx graphics accelerator. As for the performance, it was a bit on the sluggish side with those specs. I did get a better computer in late 1998 which was a AMD K6-2 350, and that definitely improved the performance for this game. The worst part of this game was the A.I., because it was crude. Luftwaffe Commander which also released at the same time also suffered from the same issue. You can change views in this game, like changing from being on top of the tank to the gunner view. The 3rd person view gives you a broad overview, but it isn't ideal when you are using it to engage targets. You can tell your gunner to engage the targets; however, if you want to engage the targets for yourself you can by changing to gunner view. At the time, this game was on a lot of PC gaming magazines. It was a popular game when it was released. The graphics textures were quite plain, like most games of that era. Simulator games like these did require a very good processor to play. I wasn't quite satisfied with it until I got a Pentium II 400 in 1999. The mid 1990s was a time when computers became obsolete in months! From 1995 to 1999, I upgraded or bought several computers. For example, in 1996 I upgraded to a Pentium 166 MMX from my old Pentium 100, in 1998 I upgraded to a K6-2 350 a few months later I upgraded to a K6-3 450, a year later I upgraded to a Pentium 2 400, a few months later I upgraded the cpu to a Pentium 3 550, and in 2000 I upgraded to a Pentium 3 800. SSI was a company known for making turn based strategy games, so for them to produce a game like this was something new. The 3d engine for this game and Luftwaffe Commander was quite good compared to other simulator games at the time. In the late 1990s, the craze was all about 3d accelerated games, and this revolution was started by 3dfx. A 3d accelerator is kind of like a math co-processor, because it frees up the CPU from doing 3d computations. As a result, the games run faster. Today, 3d accelerators are integrated with graphics cards, but in the 1990s there was a graphics card and a 3d accelerator. Basically, you needed both cards, but as time passed by they were merged into one unit. ▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄ ♦ PCEM Emulator Tutorial • ♦ Panzer Commander Game @ Abandonware • ♦ Panzer Commander Reference Card @ Abandonware • [If you wish to purchase the original game] ♦ Panzer Commander Original Game @ Amazon • ▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄▄ (Documents for this game) ♠ User Manual ◙ ♠ Reference Card ◙ █▄█▄█▄█▄█▄█▄█▄█▄█▄█▄█▄█▄█▄█▄█▄█▄█▄█▄█
