In Lufia Ruins of the Lore, instead of growing capsule monsters you meet, you can catch any monster you find along your way, as long as it's not a boss. Most of the monsters are not as good as the three protagonists who are able to switch jobs (I'd still take a monster over Bau any day though), but there are some exceptions. The most abused one is the Anti-Core, which you can raise and evolve into a Gold Core. These monsters have ridiculously high speed and defence but low everything else, especially HP. They run away very quickly when you fight them, so catching one is hard. Anti-Core makes the perfect monster to have in your party in most parts of the game. Their speed not only allows them to automatically start acting before the enemy party or even you choose your commands, but they can attack up to three times until your turn comes. However, they are not good attackers at all and when you encounter enemies with extremely high defences like other cores or Golems of the endgame variety, they will only waste your time poking the enemy with ineffective attacks. However, they make most of the game effortless when you catch one. You probably will want a different monster if you want to farm the best equipment in Ancient Cave though, because Gold Cores simply can't pierce the defences of the bosses on the lowest floors there. In this video, a Gold Core kills a boss before anybody can do anything. I don't even get to find out what the boss's name is - he's dead before I can even target him!
