Bioforge is an Action Adventure/Survival Horror game. It was made and published by Origin systems. It came out in 1995. The game uses prerendered backgrounds with real textured polygon 3D models. The graphics were very good at that time but the resolution is just standard VGA 320x200 which makes it often look pixelated and blurry. But still for the time it was a very nice looking game. If you have ever played the Alone in the Dark series or Resident Evil I guess you have a pretty good idea on what to expect from Bioforge because it's generally the same type of game and also it was released in between those two series (After AitD and before REvil) The story of Bioforge, without spoiling too much, takes you into the role of a nameless protagonist who wakes up in a prison cell. Upon waking up and smashing the nursebot who tried to tranquilize you, you look at yourself and realize what has been done to you. You were made into some kind of cyborg half-human half-machine. But who are you and where? Why did they do this to you and who are these people? That's where you adventure begins, the game just throws you in there and let's you figure out everything else on your own. And if you manage to drag your ass to the very end of the game you may even find out who you once were before you became a "Tinman". One hint I can give you there is that depending on how you played the game your personal profile will change according to that. So whatever info you get about your character is only applied to your playstyle ;) Like in most survival horror games the player needs to solve puzzles or riddles throughout the adventure and most of these puzzles have a very unique approach to them which keeps it interesting. Also every now and then the puzzle even have a timelimit so you need to hurry up. There may be one or two puzzles in Bioforge which can eventually make you want to tear your hair out but in general the puzzles are more or less logical and just take a few minutes to get the hang of it. There is also a lot of text to read in this game. Some logbooks or medical research files you can look through have so much text that you could write a novel with it. Sometimes it is even necessary to read or atleast fly over the text because there will be a security code you need. These codes also seem to be random and change with every new playthrough so you need to "read" everytime ^^ Bioforge can be very difficult and although you can select "Easy Medium or Hard" you can get problems even on Easy. This is because of the healing system. You can heal yourself whenever you want, it's part of the cybernetic enhancements you have. But when you do that you drain energy from your battery and if that thing is empty you're pretty much screwed. You will get replacement batteries sometimes but I believe there are only 3 or so in the entire game. The most important fact to know about Bioforge is that as soon as you get your last battery you MUST NOT drain the energy below...I don't know maybe 80 or 75% because otherwise it will be impmossible to escape the planet. It's best to not drain anything from it at all to be sure. However you can save the game whenever you want. You will probably die alot so save early and save often. Bioforge is not a very lengthy game you can play through it within a few hours but ofcourse only when you have played it before. Playing it the first time can be a long and difficult task so Have fun and good luck if you feel the urge to play it! ;)
