Sega Worldwide Soccer 97 (Victory Goal) | Sega Saturn Playthrough | Real hardware
AKA Victory Goal Worldwide Edition in Japan. This is a great successor to the Virtua Striker. It’s fun and controllable, a far cry from the other 3D football games from the era. It got very easy for me once I understood the mechanics (a vital move being shooting across the ground by double tapping the A button, that I’m glad I read the manual for first!). But I was so far into the competition after winning so easily that it was too late to up the difficulty. From prior experience with the other Saturn football games, easy is never easy, but this one actually is. My highest scoring game was 17-0 and I had the timer on the lowest settings of 3 minutes a half. The controls for shooting are just like ISS on the N64 so you get actual control on where in the goal you are shooting. As in if you press left and shoot anywhere on the screen, you won’t just kick the ball to the left, you will shoot towards the left post. The graphics are good for the time and you can always see the ball unlike a lot of Saturn sports games. The crosses work. It’s not the best mechanic but if you can get it to a player’s head, it will likely go in. Again, unlike other football games where the goalie will get it every time. The goalie also makes the odd mistake so you can get lucky goals in and don’t have to repeat the same formula every time for a guaranteed goal. There are three competitions to go for. World league, world cup, and custom cup. I thought the quickest way to complete the game would be to do the world cup, and boy was I wrong. Unlike other games, these make you do the preliminary rounds before the world cup even starts. So that 12 games and I had no idea what I let myself in for. By the end it took me 5 hours to get through the 19 games which was a slog but I was having an ill day and Red Dwarf playing on the other TV to keep me from losing sanity. Camera angles work well but I found the original vertical screen angle to work best for aiming as you can really tell where the goalkeeper is exactly. This is one of the best football games of the 32-bit era and puts FIFA to shame. It also makes me wonder why its spiritual successor, Virtua Striker, was so uncontrollable when they got this so right. Rating 8/10 Difficulty 2/10 Original game played on PAL Sega Saturn. Picture split between CRT TV for my own viewing and OSCC scan converter with 2x line doubler, upscaled to HDMI for recording No cheats Easy difficulty Box art from thumbnail is taken from my own collection Please Subscribe! / @retro2vr DONATE paypal.me/Tinkstonten Crypto BTC - 3Q9mg5pjT4YZgAvHQha6izYDrX3nbJqMPZ ETH - 0xB41482cB92E32C965E368f293701E5Ce18d5719f MATIC - 0x9051a87257812febda27691fc84bdd54500eb26f DOGE - DL3afUvT2UxhkoXsUZNXZS4nwxJny3s4Zm More like this: Sega Saturn - • Sega Saturn Megadrive/genesis - • Megadrive/ Genesis Playthroughs #segasaturn #segasaturngames #SegaWorldwideSoccer97
