Nascar Racing 3 (Papyrus 1999) • Racing at Indy

Nascar Racing 3 was developed by Papyrus Design Group and published by Sierra On-Line. It was released for Windows in 1999. At the time David Kaemmer was not involved with this title, probably because he was hard at work on another iteration of the physics engine that was already used in Grand Prix Legends (1998) for the upcoming Nascar Racing 4. The one used in NR3 was maybe slightly updated from previous NR2. It still didn't let the cars lift off from the ground during more severe crashes. It had its shortcomings, like the crash physics were not applied to all cars if the player was not close to the action (which can be seen in some replays), or car sounds tied to the player even in other replay cameras, but the driver AI was pretty solid and let you drive pretty convincingly over wide range of licensed tracks among real life drivers. It also supports wheels with force feedback which still works great even now on Windows 10. Though the game does not model the clutch pedal, like in previous titles from the series. The game works fine on Windows 10, I'm using nGlide glide wrapper for 3dfx emulation and for controls - Logitech G920 force feedback wheel with stick shifter. For this "short" race, we will be going to Indianapolis Speedway, which holds special place for me because of first game from Papyrus - Indianapolis 500, which basically started this series with Indycar Racing and Nascar Racing games all the way to iRacing.
