Originally Recorded/Aired On December 12th, 2020 And now, for something completely different. On the back of watching the wonderful The Queen's Gambit, I was in a chess mood at the end of last year, which reminded me of this rarely discussed game for Nintendo 64 from Titus. Yes, the people who scarred us with Superman and Carmageddon 64, two of the very worst games on the system, put out their best game on this console with Virtual Chess 64, a 1998 chess title packing an award-winning chess engine for the time that Titus had been tweaked across two earlier PC entries in this franchise (winning 1996-1997 World Microcomputer Chess Championship Professional Category and 1995 Harvard Cup awards). This one also has a pretty impressive tutorial side of things for the time, multiple AI and other options and some really weird touches, which made me want to show it off and it got the chat involved (if not annoyed), as I had people stop by on this one who adore chess who gave some great input on what turned out to be more of a marathon, compelling and memorable exploration of this than I expected. Oh and if you're asking "what other Twitch stream (or YouTube channel) would EVER talk about a game like this?", none, and that's what we do here at #SuperOldGameSaturday, so hope you enjoy this out of left field subject (and if you like what you see here, stop by / captainditrag each Saturday at 7 PM EST to see these streams live and join the conversations on what we play each week)! Also, we had another look at this game that can be found in our Virtual Chess 64 playlist here: • Virtual Chess 64
