World Series Baseball 2K2 (Dreamcast) (US)

World Series Baseball 2K2 was released in the US for the Dreamcast in April 2001. It's developed by Visual Concepts and is published by Sega under their Sega Sports brand. One year earlier Sega released World Series Baseball 2K1 that was developed by Wow Entertainment. The game was praised for its nice graphics, but critics unanimously panned it for the lack of features, game modes and really bad audio. This was due to that World Series Baseball 2K1 had been a port of an existing arcade game. Sega didn't want to risk this happening again, so they brought in Visual Concepts that already developed several successful titles for the Sega Sports brand (including NBA 2K and NFL 2K). And it worked! World Series Baseball 2K2 was received well among both critics (8,7 from IGN for example) and gamers alike. World Series Baseball 2K2 features the usual game modes as well as the Franchise mode and Online mode where your wins and losses was ranked globally. The game also has real player models and stances that mimic those of real MLB stars. All the stadiums are updated and the AI has been tweaked. Of course the game also featues an updated roster. Sadly, this was the last iteration in the World Series Baseball 2K series. It was released for the Dreamcast, but was also released on Xbox in May of 2002. The game series took a hiatus for a couple of years until it... kind of... resurrected as the Major League Baseball 2K series in 2005, also developed by Visual Concepts but published by 2K Games. This series continued yearly until 2013 when Major League Baseball 2K13 became the last game in the series.
