PAL: Shinken Densetsu - Part 5/7 - PS1 - PAL 神犬伝説 ~ Ice Cream Factory!
Well, that was a strange RPG alright. One of the strangest I've ever played, as a matter of fact. First, the enemies are completely random. They make no sense whatsoever and it's often hilarious how WTF they are. You want to fight units of power? How about 20 watts? Or how about rollercoasters and carousels? Plumbing pipes? Why not? Failed animal experiments? The scarier the merrier! Mosquitoes, angel robots, tanks, high school kids, jellies, fleas, tornadoes, historical characters such as Nostradamus, Christopher Columbus and Pythagoras, kappas, utility poles, a man in a teacup, Buddha heads, piles of junk, weights, an airplane while standing on an airplane, giant feet and hands, various other machines and animals, and Jackie Chan himself! You name it, they have it! Besides that, the story is cute but also quite weird. You are a dog who will be turned into a humanoid being by none other than Zeus himself and your goal is to go rescue your master! Will join you on your quest your master's boyfriend, Yukito, as well as the god of poverty and the mountain goddess, who are married and always fighting. While Nostradamus and his gang of historical characters are trying to make the world a "better place" through dubious means. You know, by mind controlling people and the like. The game has six different elemental spells: Fire, Ice, Thunder, Earth, Gold and Light. All the spells can be leveled up to level 3, but you need to have the scrolls equipped to be able to level them up. Each character must equip two scrolls at a time, except for Yukito. As you level spells, you can swap scrolls around to level different ones with different characters, as the leveled up spells will now be able to be cast without said scrolls. Later in the game, mini-gods will also let you cast new types of spells. Yukito cannot cast spells but can cook food with the use of various ingredients. There is a boatload of recipes you can learn for Yukito throughout the game, but I only ever used basic healing ones. Characters can also be given an elemental attribute. If an enemy is resistant to a type of magic, just cast its opposite element. The game is neither easy nor hard. In the final part of the playthrough, I complain about the difficulty of the boss gauntlet with one character, but really, had I just leveled up my healing spell to level 2, I'm not sure I would have found it difficult. That's how I beat the very final boss after losing once: I leveled up my healing spell and suddenly the final boss became a piece of cake. When all is said and done, the game is a pretty basic JRPG. Some of the enemy designs are incredibly original, some of the music is amazing, and the story is far out there. Truly a unique experience. #ps1 #jrpg #東映 Playlist: • PAL ~Shinken Densetsu | PS1 | 神犬伝説 *** LIVE STREAMS ON TWITCH OR YOUTUBE EVERY WEEKDAY!
