G.O.D. (1996, (G.O.D: Mezame yoto Yobu Koe ga Kikoe) SNES/SFC English Gameplay 2021)
G.O.D: Growth or Devotion is a Jrpg for the SNES/SFC, released in 1996. It was Produced by Infinity, and was Published by Imagineer. The English patch was released in 2018 by Dynamic Designs. STORY: 20/20 The game starts in the year 1999, you play a kid named Gen who lives with his mother in a small village. One day he makes a trip to see his grandma but during this trip he witnesses the complete invasion of his planet by an alien race. You eventually jump 10 years later and it seems that you suddenly get your memory back about that day in 1999. In the mean time of you doing things in those 10 years you have seemingly joined an alien resistance group, this is where your journey really starts. GRAPHICS: 18/20 The graphics are amazing, easily noticeable due to the fact it's one of the late games released in the SNES/SFC life, most games late in it's life look amazing. The graphics almost have a cartoony look to them, it kind of reminds me of a mix between the Aretha games and Earthbound. Spells, skills, monsters, even all the main cast are extremely well drawn and animated, though most of the monsters seem like they only have a 2-frame animation, but at least it's something. The world look really nice, towns, inside houses, caves, mountain areas, and such all look really nice also. SOUND: 16/20 The game's music is nice, it's not Final Fantasy VI standard but it's still a nice OST. Each track fits well with the area(s) it's used in but to me there's nothing really memorable enough, shame really. The game has a ton of sound effects, way to many to list here but it certainly has all the usual stuff, such as attack sounds, skill sounds, other sounds, all of them sound pretty good. GAMEPLAY: 18/20 The game is incredibly easy to get into, controls are super easy, understanding how skills, magics, etc. are learned and use is easy, and even exploring areas is easy. Some characters will learn skills as they level whilst others will need the use of the skills menu, speaking of which.. some skills can be levelled up too for newer skills. there's actually a lot to do in this game, and it's a pretty heft journey from start to end, so well worth the time to play. TRANSLATION: 18/20 This translation is pretty good even though there are still some glaring problems, like the screen glitch jumping throughout dialogue parts, and even some graphics become a jumbled mess. This patch was however released on V0.99 and not 100% complete, there was a few things that D-D couldn't figure out. OVER ALL: 90/100 This is one of those hidden gems that the SNES/SFC seems to have an abundant of. Do I recommend this one..? HELL YES! it's a great game, even with its small translation flaws. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you're interested in trying this out then you can find the English Patch here..
