NES Longplay [581] Saint Seiya: Ougon Densetsu Kanketsu Hen (Fan-Translation)

Played by: Reinc This game is based on the Japanese manga/anime series Saint Seiya, also known as Knights of the Zodiac. The game primarily covers 8th to 13th volumes of the original manga. The story follows five mystical warriors called the "Saints" ("Knights" in some adaptations) who fight wearing sacred armors named "Cloths", the designs of which derive from the various constellations the characters have adopted as their destined guardian symbols, and empowered by a mystical energy called "Cosmo". The Saints have sworn to defend Saori, the reincarnation of the Greek goddess Athena, in her battle against the other Olympian gods who want to dominate Earth. Saori gets her chest pierced by a golden arrow, and now the Saints have to storm the 12 palaces of Zodiac in order to ask Pope to remove the arrow. The gameplay is split in two parts. First, you play a mediocre action-platformer level as you fight through the guards. Then, you meet the boss of the level and the game switches to behind-the-back view of your character as you fight using turn-based RPG interface. All characters use two stats: Life (speaks for itself) and Cosmo. The more Cosmo you have, the stronger and farther your attacks are. If character's Life or Cosmo runs out, they die. It is recommended to use attacks that damage Cosmo. There's also the Seventh Sense bar, which is shared by all your characters. Seventh Sense is used to restore Life and Cosmo, and is accumulated through defeating enemies or certain events. It is possible to grind for Seventh Sense by staying on the action-platforming sections for a longer time, but the game limits the time you can grind. If you stay on a level for too long, boulders start falling from the sky, forcing you to escape. It is important to use the correct character for each level (except the first) in order to activate various bonuses which are the key to victory in this game. Each character has their own properties in action-platforming, too: Shun has the fastest movement, but his weapon has the shortest range and has to return before he can attack again; Seiya has the highest jump; Shiryu has rapid-fire ability; Hyoga's attacks have the longest range. One interesting thing about boss battles in this game: there is a quick-time event system where you have about a second to dodge enemy attack when you see your character raising their arms in defence. It is done by pressing left or right right before enemy's attack. - Disclaimer: Most videos by World of Longplays use SaveStates!
