It was the first of its kind for the console. The game, set in an urban night scene, involves a classic street fight. The player controls a man, aiming to corner his opponent by delivering punches. The punches can be high or low, and strong or weak. The player can also block the opponent’s punches, but if the high or low doesn’t match, they’ll get hit. A strong punch can significantly push back the opponent by knocking them down, but it has a large opening. A weak punch is quick but can’t knock down the opponent. Both the player and the enemy have stamina that slightly decreases with each punch thrown and significantly decreases when hit by a punch. Even if stamina is depleted, it doesn’t mean immediate defeat, but the player will only be able to throw slow, weak punches and will get knocked down even by weak punches. Winning a round involves knocking down the opponent multiple times and cornering them at the edge of the screen. If you push them off the screen three times, they fall into a manhole and you win. The game also supports two-player competitive play. As you continue to win against your opponent, the CPU’s behavior pattern changes gradually and more gimmicks appear. The number and shape of icons under remaining lives also change. If you win 139 consecutive times, you earn the title of “CHAMPION”, but you can still continue playing (the game doesn’t have an ending).
