Developed by: Cryo Interactive Entertainment After Versailles, Cryo came up with their second historical adventure-game; Egypt. Gone are the richly decorated interiors of the first title, making place for the more primitive and earthly environments of the Egyptians. Still, the game manages to create a dark and dense atmosphere. Close-ups of the characters are really improved compared to Versailles, but wooden animation is still there far to often; check out the walks to see what I mean. Other animation is done with motion-capture (like the ritual of the priest in the last chapter), but it's used sparingly. Exploring tombs and searching dead bodies for clues made quite an impression on me as a kid. Without this nostalgia, I can imagine this game is a rather dull and frustrating affair. Because, like its forebearer, gameplay and puzzle-design is once again the weak element here. === TECHNICAL NOTES * I played this game in a Windows 10 environment. (64-bit) Option 1 ======== * Make an .iso- file from your original DVD or CD, mount it and click on the .exe file to start the game. If that doesn't work, read further for a more thoroughly method. Option 2 ======== * The installation-program is not compatible with 64-bit systems. Follow these steps: - Copy your CD/DVD on your harddisk and give it any name you want; for example "DVD_Egypt1." Never delete this folder; it functions as CD-station for the game. - Search online for a file "setup32.exe" (choose Is3Engine.zip at
unzip it and place the .exe in the folder you created in the previous step: "DVD_Egypt1/SETUP/US" - Click on the setup32-file and install the game. Don't install it in a "Program Files" folder on your harddisk. - You can start the game now, but there's still some fixing to do. * For fixing the color-glitch in the main menu, I used the wrapper dgVoodoo. (
* I copied the files D3D8.dll, D3DImm.dll, DDraw.dll and dgVoodooCpl in the game-folder together with the Egypt.exe file. * I used the SVGA-videocard in the DirectX-tab. * For more information about how to configure dgVoodoo:
(or ask me in the comment-section) * You can make one more tweak if you want; I used framerate-limit in NVidia-Inspector and locked it to 30,5 fps for a more comfortable speed. © Cryo Interactive Entertainment / Canal+ Multimédia
