X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse (SNES) Playthrough - NintendoComplete

A playthrough of Capcom's 1994 license-based platformer/beat 'em up for the Super Nintendo, X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse. X-men: Mutant Apocalypse is among my favorite X-men games ever, right alongside Children of the Atom, which coincidentally enough was also released by Capcom in 1994 but in arcades. This SNES gem really exemplifies how on-top of their game Capcom was when it came to developing for the SNES. The graphics look awesome, with huge, well animated sprites and detailed backgrounds that all look right in line with their source material. The soundtrack rocks, and is easily the among the best Mega Man X soundtracks on the SNES after the first.... okay, so it's not a MMX soundtrack, but it sounds like it could have/should have been with its rock beats and heavily abused guitar samples. The gameplay is truly what makes the game shine, though. The combat hybridizes standard 2D platforming with fighting controls from Street Fighter II, and it works beautifully. The moves are all well balanced, easy to pull off, and make things more interesting than merely smashing the Y-button until your thumb falls off. I also love that MMX's stage select has been adapted here - the choice of stage order is pretty nice since it allows you to play many times over without getting completely fed up playing the first few levels again and again. That having been said, it's not likely that you'd have to - its actually pretty easy for a non-Disney Capcom action game. It's not a total cakewalk, but it was made pretty accessible to all players, not just experts. If you haven't taken on this X-Men title, do yourself a favor and try it out. In my mind, it's by far the best 16-bit X-Men title, even besting the (quite good) Genesis titles by a fair margin. And to anyone that wants to draw the comparison: no, it's nothing like MK Mythologies. The mere suggestion is an insult to this game. ____ No cheats were used during the recording of this video.
