Lupin the 3rd - Hong Kong no Mashu - Jigen playthrough

Sorry for any audio hiccups that occur. I don't know Japanese, but through looking at the messages with notepad++ and using Google Translate as well as good ol' trial and error, I was able to BS my way through this. Even if the art is wonky at times and a lot of the action could only be understood through the text I glossed over, more people should be aware of this :) Good luck figuring out how Jigen's and Goemon's playthrough fit together. Boy, oh boy, Jigen's route pulls a Sierra-style gotcha moment on you much, much later. If you don't get the '9DRAGONS' password scene with Miki, the game will become unwinnable. On the other hand, it doesn't matter what choices you make in the scene with Miki before the hotel, so Jigen gets to act like a jerk haha. As for the first phone call that happens, that involves Lupin meeting with Fujiko which is optional and can potentially net you a game over if you choose poorly. A few other optional Fujiko encounters I skip over are harmless. Her presence at the haunted house is another optional encounter but one where she's really useful. The ending is where things get interesting. One way or another Lupin will accompany Jigen to the meeting the second phone call alludes to. If you refuse to tell Lupin both times he dons a disguise. [
] It's another one of those flavor text options that doesn't really affect anything in the long run afaik. "Lam Hugh" or whatever Google Translate calls him dies no matter what you do, but there's a car chase I didn't go over and confronting the guy who killed him at the park can be avoided. For the haunted house, you need the smoke bomb for the upcoming fight - and I already used it when Miki went to the computer again. (Update - memory was off. Got confused with a different playthrough where I selected the option to use the smoke bomb when Miki used the laptop at Kowloon Park instead of Little Island and got ambushed. Also, there's an alternative route that doesn't require the smoke bomb you can take that has you rescue Goemon like on what happens on his route. It does require the wire rope and lighter, however.) I show off the optional Big Foot-like creature, but the game specifically screws you here if you have the wire rope. The skeletons are also optional as is the Frankenstein encounter, and well Goemon's route already shows him off. The grenade is finally useful at the boat but doesn't really change things much if you don't have it, whereas using the smoke bomb here nets you a game over. The boat and the go-kart scenes are fun but another one of those skippable scenes. You can decide to go underground where the computer is first or run around evading everyone. It doesn't matter what order you do them in, as long as you do them. Without the lighter, you can't get the statue. There's still other optional paths that I don't know how to trigger on either route.
