Coming from Michigan, I grew up playing a game of Euchre. This game apparently has traveled around through naval ports and into the great lakes area. It is also known throughout the military especially the Navy. Mostly played in the United States in the north. The game is traditionally played with 5 cards in your hand. It is similar to the game of spades, except that in Euchre the Trump cards can be whatever suite is voted up. The bower cards are the jacks of the same color as the Trump set.
