Gate of Thunder (TurboGrafx-CD) Playthrough - NintendoComplete

A playthrough of Hudson's 1992 shoot 'em up for the TurboGrafx-16 CD/TurboDuo, Gate of Thunder. Played through on the normal difficulty level. This TurboDuo launch pack-in title (released on a CD that also featured Bonk's Adventure, Bonk's Revenge, and Bomberman) was one helluva blast-off for the Duo. It far surpassed anything seen on the SNES or Genesis, pushing absurd numbers of bullets, ships and effects across the screen with no slowdown or flicker while juggling several layers of parallax scrolling, and that's all backed by an at-the-time unprecedented, amazingly well-done instrumental metal soundtrack. It was, and still is, a 16-bit shooter fan's wet dream. The only shmup on the Turbo CD that I can honestly say that i prefer over it is its spiritual successor, the incredible Lords of Thunder - also done by the inimitable Red, who just so happens to be the developer of my all-time favorite shmup on any system, Air Zonk). Sure, in many ways it mimics Thunderforce 4, but really, does that matter when it trumps the quality of its inspiration by such a huge margin? ____ No cheats were used during the recording of this video.
