KNIGHTS OF XENTAR is a JRPG title released by Megatech Software in 1995 for PC MS-DOS. It is a localized western variant of the Japanese game DRAGON KNIGHT III which was originally designed for the PC-98, Sharp X68000 and FM Towns by élf in 1991. DRAGON KNIGHT III is the only entry of the four-part series that was officially released outside of Japan. The English version of the game comes as both an adult version (keeping all the naughty scenes of the original) and a censored NR13 version without any sexual content. All censored versions can be upgraded to the adult version with an official patch by Megatech. KNIGHTS OF XENTAR was also localized for Chinese, South Korean and German audiences. CD versions of the game are fully voiced. After freeing Strawberry Fields from evil forces in the second game, Desmond (originally called Takeru in the Japanese games) finds himself in a miserable state at the beginning of his third adventure. Cleary still in a drunk state from all the celebrations, he is stripped off his magical sword and amour by a group of bandits. Desmond now has to embark on an epic quest to get back his belongings, yet unclear about what he is getting himself into. Joined by his old friends Rolf and Luna, he must fight against hideous demons to destroy the evil that haunts their lands once and for all. KNIGHTS OF XENTAR might be a disappointment for a lot of hardcore RPG players out there. It is a lite JRPG with easy puzzles and fetch quests and a linear progression, clearly aimed at casual gamers. Nevertheless, it is highly enjoyable thanks to its crazy world, wacky humor, interesting characters and well-written dialogues. The level of detail and the love that went into this title make it worthwhile spending roughly ten hours exploring all the locations and secrets of Xentar's world. The game still remains as one of my all time favorite RPG experiences. In order to acquire better gear and keep up with your enemies, you are forced to grind a lot in this game. This can become very tedious. Hence, most people uploading walkthroughs or let's plays of the game decide to cut out these parts. I deliberately did not do so. However, you can skip all grinding sections with the help of the provided timecodes. This longplay shows the CD-ROM edition of the German version. It is the version I grew up with and in my opinion by far the best variant of the game thanks to the great voice acting. In contrast, I always hated the over-the-top voice acting of the English version. It makes a total mockery of the game and always left me feeling like watching an episode of the Simpsons instead of playing a lighthearted JRPG game. However, the German dub successfully walks the thin line between hilarious comedy and serious voice acting, mastering to transport the atmosphere of the original Japanese game. Due to YouTube policies, this video shows the censored NR13 version (that's the USK16 version for all you Germans out there). Notes: I'm aware of the fact that after defeating Deimos you can travel the land of Xentar to get extra dialogues from all the NPCs. However, I decided to not include this in my longplay because I wanted to focus on the main story. I did not miss the tree-humping girl next to the lake of the fairies. The character was removed from the non-adult version of the game. 00:00 Intro / Menu 04:00 Elendssenke - Namenloses Dorf 46:25 Grinding 1:05:11 Clara - Tymm 1:54:55 Phoenix + Rolf 2:12:42 Grinding 2:36:02 Neros Zuflucht - Friedhofsturnier (Pt. 1) 3:20:29 Arcadia + Luna 3:47:33 Grinding 4:28:30 Friedhofsturnier (Pt. 2) - Bonzingen 5:07:05 Burg Kalist 5:30:45 Dummsdorf - Dreistrang 7:11:48 Grinding 7:38:22 Tempel von Xentar - Deimos - Ende 8:39:39 Outro / Credits 8:49:06 Xentars Photo Shop #KnightsOfXentar #DragonKnight #DragonKnight3 #DragonKnightIII #elf #MegatechSoftware #JRPG #RPG #MSDOS #Takeru #Desmond #RetroGame #RetroGaming #Longplay #Walkthrough #Playthrough #ドラゴンナイトIII
