Sonic 3 & Knuckles Part 12: Sky Sanctuary Zone (Hyper Sonic & Tails)

Sky Sanctuary is a sanctuary that's high into the sky. Above Angel Island, Sonic & Tails see that the Death Egg has returned to its former, evil, Star Wars-inspired glory, and now unleashes Egg Robos all over the zone to keep the hedgehog at bay. It looks like Eggman used the Master Emerald's power as fuel to get the Death Egg running again. Feeling tired and regretful, the only thing Knuckles does at this point is to make a bridge for Sonic & Tails to cross, and continue through the Sky Sanctuary on their own. If you duck a little bit to the right near Knuckles, he'll speechlessly tell you to go on without him. It's an interesting little Easter Egg. -------------- This zone is another zone that uses vertical looping, so it can look "taller" than it is. This is because despite going left and right, Sonic's actually trying to go up in order to reach the Death Egg. This marks the debut of Mecha Sonic, a new and improved robotic Sonic doppelganger with 3 phases as their own boss: 1st: Mecha Sonic is in an Egg Mobile, and proceeds to attack Sonic in the same way Eggman did to him in Sonic 1's Green Hill boss: By swinging a giant checked boulder at him. 2nd: Mecha Sonic uses an Egg Mobile, again, but this time he's mimicking the Eggman boss of Sonic 2's Metropolis: Pods circle around him that release painful balloon copies of himself, resorting to firing a laser from his machine after they're all gone. In both cases, the bosses are much easier than they originally were, due to the changes and additions Sonic 3 & Knuckles has compared to Sonic 1 & 2, such as Sonic's Insta-Shield attack, the elemental shields, and Hyper Sonic. -------------- 3rd: Mecha Sonic then decides to take you on by himself with his own moves, such as bouncing on you, sliding towards you, or shooting himself through the air. Defeating him this time defeats him and completes this single-act Zone. Notice that he doesn't explode, however. He simply sits and rest, with his body sparking out from time to time. The Death Egg from here is now right above Sonic & Tails, and its turbulence is enough to make the area around them collapse. They scale up one, final, spiraling tower and leave Mecha Sonic behind in the dust. At the very last moment, Sonic once again manages to jump inside the Death Egg, and now Tails can join him, too! The final battle for the whole world is near! -------------- Congratulations to Sky Sanctuary for representing Sonic 3 & Knuckles in the console version of Sonic Generations!
