Beggar Prince / Xin Qi Gai Wang Zi - Sega Genesis Megadrive Cover Arts Regional Differences

Beggar Prince as it is known in the West was initially released in 1996 as Xin Qi Gai Wang Zi (新乞丐王子) that literally means "New Beggar Prince". The game's story is based of The Prince and the Pauper, also known as Qi Gai Wang Zi (乞丐王子) that is "Beggar Prince" in Chinese. C&E Inc, the developer was a Taiwanese company that worked on multiple Sega Mega Drive (Genesis) that were released for Chinese territories while being unlicensed by Sega.This role-playing adventure game by C&E Inc.was later released in 1998 on Windows PCs. In 2006, Super Fighter Team that previously acquired the translation rights to the Mega Drive version released their first print of the game and named it "Beggar Prince". (600 copies) This US / EU release saw a new covert art. There was a re-release (2nd print) in 2007, similar to the first one. (300 copies) Due to the success of both previous releases, Super Fighter Team decided to release a 3rd print in late 2007 and introduced a new artwork. (1500 copies) Years later, it was also released in 2013 for PC and Mac. Finally, in 2016, for the 20th anniversary of its initial release, the Sega Genesis saw a fourth release with a similar art to the 3rd but with the red Genesis background but this time instead of the plastic clamshell, they used a cardboard box similar to the later Sega Genesis releases.
