Miracle Space Race (PS1) Gameplay

This is just a gameplay vid of Miracle Space Race on the PS1. Not even I knew this game existed, it hit the PS1 in 2003, and is another one that I got in a recent ebay lot. It's OK, but has a lot of flaws. Graphically, the game looks pretty good for a PS1 game. I have texture smoothing on in this vid, but I really couldn't see the difference when it's on or off. I also like the music for some reason. Don't ask me why. That being said, the AI in this game is brutal. I'm playing on easy, and it's actually a fluke that I did as good as I did, because normally I'm struggling to even get third place in the tracks. Not that tough AI is a bad thing, but this game appears to be aimed at kids, and it's too hard for them. One mistake can knock you out of the running for the rest of the race. The controls are also extremely touchy whether using analog, or my preferred method for racing games, the D-pad. Until you get a feel for it, you'll be eating the wall a lot. Speaking of walls, the courses are too narrow, and they all look the same. The narrow courses make getting past opponents particularly hard. It's easy to get stuck behind and not be able to get past them. Even with after hitting enemies with an attack, you often times run into them afterward. Also, the powerups lack variety, and are pretty basic, and the game never seems to give you the one you need. Overall, this game can be entertaining from what I've played of it, but I couldn't recommend it unless you find it for really cheap. With games like Crash Team Racing on the PS1 I'd be hard pressed to suggest this game to any but the most forgiving gamers. With some tweaking, this game would have been a really fun little futuristic kart racer, but as it stands, it can be fun at times, but it's flaws make it frustrating to play a lot of the time. Did I mention I liked the music for some strange reason. I can't quite place what it reminds me of though.
