Ballz 3D (SNES) Playthrough - NintendoComplete

A playthrough of Accolade's 1994 3D versus-fighter for the Super NES, Ballz 3D. Played through on the default difficulty level with Boomer. I play through the first loop of the game - after you beat the last boss, the game gives you control of him and puts you back at the beginning. Nothing else, as far as I'm aware, changes. I do show most (all?) of the fatalities and transformation moves over the course of the game. So, when people speak about SNES fighting games, this one does not come up very often. That isn't surprising - or at least, it probably won't be if you've played it. The whole gimmick here is obviously the graphics. Using characters made entirely out of spheres, the game plays out in full 3D with free range of the arenas in any direction. Cool, right? It might have been. Unfortunately, there aren't many moves at all, the game slows down horribly in several places (that's much better on the Genesis btw - it looks worse in screenshots but it's definitely more fluid in motion), and for how hard it tries, it really doesn't have much personality. Not the likable kind anyway. I'm not sure what it is, but the attempt to mix these ugly 3D characters devoid of any real features with lots of senseless innuendo referring to balls and asses gets old pretty quickly. It's like it's trying to go for a similar middle-finger to good taste that Boogerman aims for, except unlike Boogerman, it's not fun, funny, nor endearing. It's annoying. The music doesn't help matters much, either. To be fair, that's really only because this game needs more than just music. Some of the music is pretty cool, or at least interesting... Lots of lady o-face noises in the intro. If you want crass irreverence in your fighting games, play ClayFighter and leave this steaming poo on the shelf. For anyone that cares to know, there was an upgraded version released for the 3DO. It was better, but like my parents used to tell me - even when coated in powdered sugar, a dog turd is still a dog turd. The game's credits have been inserted at the end of the video. ____ No cheats were used during the recording of this video. NintendoComplete (
