Let's Play Chocobo Racing 10: Hidden Characters and Grand Prix Movies

The post-commentary wasn't working out too well either, so I just dropped it. Sorry. I'll just say stuff about the game here, so you can read it if you want to. If you complete the story mode again, it won't appear as though you've unlocked anything. You have though. You've unlocked 1 of 8 hidden characters, and you'll get one more each time you go through the story mode. In the video, I showed them in the order you unlock them. To race as any of the hidden characters, you have to highlight Squall on the character select screen and hold down a certain button or combination. The name will change from Squall to the new racer. Hold down L1 to race as Cid's Tank from Chocobo's Dungeon 2. It seems slightly slower than other racers. Hold down L2 to race as a Moomba. Yaaay! I love Moombas. They're from Final Fantasy VIII, and they're my second favorite creature from the series. It's spelled Mumba here for some reason. It goes as fast as the other racers despite not having a car, and it makes an adorable squeak sound every time you use a magic stone. Hold down R1 to race as Cloud from Final Fantasy VII. He's racing on the motorcycle he stole from the Shinra Building and rode down the highway in his game. Hold down R2 to race as a Cactuar. It's not in a car, and is much slower than the other racers. It's too slow to jump the gap in Gingerbread Land if you don't use Haste or Dash. On the other hand, I find it kind of entertaining to race as. Hold down L1 and L2 to race as Aya from Parasite Eve. You don't ever see her, just the police car she's riding in. She was in the NYPD in the game she's from. When you use a magic stone, you can hear a gun shot noise if you listen close. The police siren briefly goes off when the car is attacked. I like giving her Mega Flare and pretending it's one of her Parasite Powers. Hold down R1 and R2 to race as "Classic Chocobo". What does that mean? 8-bit Chocobo! Awesome! Not really 8-bit but kind of. Hold down L1 and R1 to race as the S.S. Invincible, the airship from Final Fantasy III. (The NES one, not the SNES one.) It's sort of 8-bit-like the Chocobo was. It's also extremely fast! You can't go any faster without hacking the game. It's so fast in fact that Haste and Dash actually slow you down, because those set you at a fixed speed rather than increasing your speed. This thing already goes around 160 MPH at top speed as it is. I find it amusing to run a full circle around the other racers. Hold down L2 and R2 to race as Jack. He's slow like the Cactuar. As pointed out by Quadraxis14, he's the protagonist of an NES game called The 3-D Battles of World Runner. I read that the English version, simply 3-D World Runner, just called this character WorldRunner. I always wondered who this guy was. That's all for hidden characters. Let's talk about the other unlockables and Grand Prix mode now. The Grand Prix mode is undeniably very similar to Mario Kart. You pick four race courses and score points after each. You get the most points for placing 1st, obviously. Make it into the top 3 for a quick little victory screen. If you place 1st overall as a story mode character, you'll also get a movie sequence. You can re-watch any of these in the Options menu. Be sure to save your game when you unlock them, as the game doesn't auto-save for you. Squall, the hidden characters, and custom racers won't get you any movies. In the Sound Room under Options, you can listen to any sound effect or music track you've heard at least once before. Getting back to Grand Prix mode, when you place first on a course, the next time you're on the confirmation screen for selecting that course, you'll notice a bronze crown. If you get one on all the courses, the next time you finish selecting four courses, you'll be given a choice between Chocobo Class and Behemoth Class. Chocobo Class is the speed in story mode and the one you've been racing in so far. Behemoth is a little faster. Clear the courses in that to get silver crowns and also unlock Bahamut Class. By the way, in the video I raced the airship in Bahamut class. It seemed to have added 40 MPH. Clear all the courses in Bahamut class to get gold crowns and unlock Mirror Mode. Mirror Mode can be turned on in the Options menu, and all the twists and turns of the courses will be flipped from left to right.
