Sam & Max Hit the Road (PC) Playthrough - NintendoComplete

A playthrough of the CD version of LucasArts' 1993 Dos graphic adventure, Sam & Max Hit the Road. This was another childhood PC favorite of mine, next to Day of the Tentacle and Kings Quest V & VI. It's got DOTT's incredible sense of humor, but for all of its advancements, I can't help still but to feel that it's not as good as Day of the Tentacle. It's certainly great, but even with the inclusion of CGI graphics, and equally as good of characters and voice acting, this one was excruciatingly hard without any hints. While there's always some hint to be found somewhere for just about all of the puzzles, some of them are so obtuse that I swear I would've never figured them out without clicking every single item on every single hot spot on every single screen. Granted, I was about 12 when I played it the first time, but still - DOTT was difficult, but it felt far more fair, and if you logically understood what needed to happen, the solution was usually a fair logical jump (even if that logic was absurd). The only other issue I had with this one that makes me like DOTT more is that the background graphics really lack the "magic" it's predecessor had. They all look great, and there are some real standout pieces (the country singer's house is particularly awesome), but so many rely on a semi-realistic depiction of a location with some funny objects strewn about. It feels a bit more... conventional. Either way, I certainly don't mean to be too negative. The game does so many things well that these issues, though not minor, do nothing to obscure the sheer genius that spills out of Sam and Max's character animations and dialogue - this seriously would have made an awesome series of cartoon shorts in a 90s prime-time talk show or variety show. It's lewd without being gross, it's profane without being vulgar, and it bleeds sarcasm without ever being mean-spirited. Bravo, LucasArts' Adventure Team. You made a damn good game here, for whatever my opinion might be worth. _________ No cheats were used during the recording of this video. NintendoComplete (
