Strong Bad and They Might Be Giants - Crystal Fortress (4K Restoration with Sound Effects intact)
Now, I think you've seen Evan Clue's excellent restoration of this exact song and video, but you know what. I had a single problem with it. A minuscule problem that most people wouldn't stay up till midnight on a Sunday to solve. The lack of sound effects. Even worse, the lack of sound effects on two singular scenes, this was such an outrage to my obsessive ass, I decided. FUCK IT. If nobody else will fix it, I will. So, nearly one hour later, at the time I'm writing this, and I present you with a 4K restoration of Crystal Fortress, with the sound effects readded, still using the Podcast 37A version of the track, and The Brother Chaps' Flash magic. All in it's original framerate and aspect ratio! Now if you care enough to read further, I'll explain how I did this so that you could do it yourself if you were that mad. Step 1. Watch a restoration and find something that's missing. Don't tell them though, we'll be solving this OURSELVES! And maybe one-upping them! Or failing miserably. Step 2. Track down the highest quality file of the song you can find, as well as the original, you're going to need it for the visuals and syncing. Step 3. Slap the two tracks into [INSERT AUDIO SOFTWARE HERE] preferably something easy to work with and smooth. (No offense Audacity, but you're slow at moving tracks sometimes.) Step 4. Spend at least 10 minutes moving them until they are as synced up as you can be bothered to do. (I was VERY bothered). Step 5. Realise you don't know what the hell that sound effect is. You can skip this step and the next one if you plan properly Step 6. Realise its in a obscure as hell source that isn't even documented, in my case Main Page 7, and extract the hell out of it. Step 7. Time the sound effect to the original track, not the NEW one, the ORIGINAL. Got it? Good. Step 8. Realise there's another sound effect you missed and procced to download a game to get it. (You can skip again and this next two steps) Step 9. Realise either A. Steam or B. The Internet Provider, is being an ass and not letting you download the game you need. Step 10. Remember that you have it already and bash your head on the table. Step 11. Once everything is glued together export the child into wav, or mp3 I don't care. Step 12. Get the visuals and new audio together somehow, in my case I had to replace the original version in FFDEC and then save it as a new swf. Step 13. Make any other edits required to make it "Youtube Friendly" Step 14. Render that boi, or in my case Swivel it for at least 5 minutes until it begins looping on itself and you need to stop it manually and use Youtube's editor to rectify it. Step 15. Relax, you've just done someone somewhere a service, or you've insulted the guy you were trying to fix. Congrats you're a art fixer. Step 16. Go to bed, its later than late, and no watching Venture Bros. either, hopefully YOU did this at a REASONABLE hour.
