Speed Busters, in North American territory known as Speed Busters: American Highway and in some places even Speed Devils is an arcade racing game, that was made and published by Ubi Soft in 1998 for the Windows platform. Well, yes (read below). Many give the game - at least on the GOG website - bad reviews, that it won't run. That is not true. It does work, but you definitely need use a graphical wrapper like dgVoodoo 2, that you can download on the link below (at the time of writing, the version is 2.79, release date is 2022.06.19):
From the zip archive you need to extract the following files to the game folder, where you installed Speed Busters (default folder is C:\GOG Games\Speed Busters): dgVoodoo.conf dgVoodooCpl.exe from the dgVoodoo2_79.zip\MS\x86\ folder you need all the dll files: D3D8.dll D3D9.dll D3DImm.dll DDraw.dll For configuration open up the dgVoodooCpl.exe in you games folder (watch my settings from 26:18 onward). For flawlessly playing the .avi videos (Ubisoft logo, intro video etc.) you need to have the right codecs installed. I recommend the K-Lite Codec Pack Basic:
So does the game work? As you can watch the video, I would say yes. 😊 You can try to play the game with different options in the game launcher, where you can change the graphics settings. You could lower the Clipping distance (from Far to Near) etc. Same animated elements still can have some glitches, like the walking dinosaur on the California track. Anyway, try different options and see, what will work for you. Also in dgVoodoo 2 you can let Texture Filtering on "App driven" if you get visual glitches. The game is totally playable. Maybe I will make another video in the future.
